Interview with NBA 2K League Player, Tre’on (@TrollBoyTre) on Making the 2KL & More

We are getting closer and closer to NBA 2K League Draft Day on April 4 for the inaugural season of the NBA 2K League. NBA 2KW got the chance to sit down with Tre’on a.k.a. @TrollBoyTre – who will be one of 102 NBA 2K players who will be drafted for the inaugural NBA 2K League – about what it means to be part of the #102club, future plans, and more!

2KW: Tell us a little about your background, how you got into esports and the 2K League in particular.

Tre’on: I’ve actually been playing 2K Sports since the creation of it when it was Sega Dreamcast and Allen Iverson was on the cover! I’ve always loved the concept of putting your real life basketball knowledge towards a virtual video game. Since 2k15 competing against others in the Jordan Rec Center, when you were able to experience playing as a team against others across the world was very intriguing to me! At that moment, I knew that if there was ever an esports league for 2k, that I wanted and would be apart of it, so it’s really a dream come true!

2KW: What approach did you take towards NBA 2KL Combine qualifications, and what archetype did you choose?

Tre’on: Ever since a kid when I first started learning about the game of basketball, the thing that stuck with me the most is that there is no “I” in team! So that’s the same approach that I took playing in the combine, which was focusing more on getting my teammates involved playing team ball, rather than just going after personal stats! I decided to enter the combine as a Power Forward, Athletic Rebounder.

2KW: What are some noteworthy experiences you’ve had so far and favorite NBA 2K memory?

Tre’on: A few noteworthy experiences I’ve had was having the #1 team in the power rankings on NBA 2K16 (which really didn’t mean anything because we didn’t qualify during the tournament haha) and qualifying for the 2k17 RTTASG tourney. My favorite memory would definitely be getting selected to represent the inaugural season of the NBA 2K League.

2KW: What are you most looking forward to about the league?

Tre’on: The thing that I’m looking forward to the most in the league would be giving my all to the organization that drafts me.

2KW: What’s the first thing you plan to do and what would be your long-term goal?

Tre’on: The first thing that I plan to do would be giving back to less fortunate families and communities. I’ve always been one that genuinely wants to see everyone doing well and being happy in life. So I try make sure to spread positive vibes to the best of my abilities. My long-term goal would be opening up a non-profitable organization for kids/teenagers that would include a tutor for assistance with school work and career paths, different gaming systems because gaming is most definitely life, and different activities that would keep them busy and out of the streets!

2KW: Who’s your favorite NBA team and do you have a preference of what team you want to get drafted by?

Tre’on: I actually don’t have a favorite NBA team as I’m more so just a fan of the game of basketball. Do I have a preference of who I want to get drafted by? Of course I do! Any of the 17 teams that selects me and which ever team that I land, I’m definitely going to give 110% effort and play my role into representing them well and bringing home that championship!

We’d like to thank Tre’on for taking the time to do this interview, and also be sure to check out this video scouting report on Tre’on by Pro-Am analyst, Thomas Lynch!
